The Sean McCaffrey Foundation is extending its partnership with the Cavan Monaghan Underage League and support the funding of their three National League squads training requirements throughout the 2021 season.

Cavan Monaghan are competing at under-14, under-15 and under-17 this season.

The Foundation supported the team’s training needs in 2020, but as competitive football was curtailed, the foundation has agreed to extend the sponsorship for the coming season.

The national league competition offers young talent from the region the opportunity to play football at the highest level in the country. With past players such as Aaron McCabe flying high with Longford Town, the pathway is available to young players to reach their full potential.

The opportunity to contribute was made possible by the recent success of the Foundation’s Patron Scheme initiative.

In 2019, the Foundation hosted a free event aimed at educating players both on and off the field with speakers including Republic of Ireland under-19 manager Tom Mohan, current League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon and former Manchester United and Northern Ireland international Pat McGibbon.

Last year, as well as sponsorship of training, the Foundation held a free event focused on Mental Health with Derek Pepper from Shine as well as a Question and Answer session with former Republic of Ireland internationals Keith Fahey and Jonathan Douglas.

For 2021, there has been an increase in teams from last season’s one under-15 side to three currently operating in the League of Ireland Underage Leagues at under 14, 15 and 17 levels.

This financial assistance from the Sean McCaffrey Foundation will provide even more young players than ever before from the local area with the chance of achieving their potential – in a manner befitting the tradition McCaffrey himself carried out.
