GALWAY

The Tribeswomen will be looking to end a three game streak without a win when they host Wexford Youths at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

Galway have won just one game since manager Stephen Lally took over from Billy Clery with his side claiming two disappointing draws with teams below them in the table and a 2-0 loss to DLR Waves in recent weeks.

Last week they made the trip to Limerick to face Treaty Untied, while Niall Connolly’s side have improved in recent months the nature of the 2-2 result will have disappointed Galway.

Lynsey McKey opened the scoring for the Tribeswomen in the 49th minute with Méabh de Búrca doubling the lead on her return for the Galway Girls in the 67th minute.

Lally’s side should have had enough about them to hold on to and claim the three points but goals from Gillian Keenan and Jenna Slattery in the 86th and 89th minutes meant that the sides shared the points last weekend.

A poor record against Youths means that it’ll take a stellar performance from Galway on Saturday to turn their form around at Eamonn Deacy Park with no victories against Wexford since 2014.

WEXFORD YOUTHS

Youths are in great form coming into their visit to Galway on Saturday with the side going unbeaten in their last 11 games in the Women’s National League.

Draws with Peamount United and Shelbourne in recent weeks, along with wins in their last three games has kept Wexford in the title race just a point behind the League leaders.

Last week they recorded a 3-1 win over Athlone Town with Ellen Molloy opening the scoring in the first half.

Athlone equalised through Katelyn Keogh in the 49th minute but Ellen Molloy secured her brace later in the game with Ciara Rossiter scoring just before the full-time whistle to claim the three points.

Youths have a game at hand on the WNL leaders and they will need to ensure another victory this weekend to keep the pressure up on Shelbourne and Peamount United who are taking on DLR Waves and Treaty United respectively.

MATCH STATS

Galway have recorded just one victory over Wexford Youths since they entered the WNL. That was a 1-0 victory in February 2014 when current Youths player Sinead Taylor scored for the Tribeswomen.

Youths are unbeaten in eleven games in the WNL, they have only lost their opening game of the season so far.

Wexford have scored more goals than any other team in the WNL so far this season with 34.
