Galway United kept their stellar run going in the First Division on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Cobh Ramblers at Eamonn Deacy Park.

The Tribesmen have now won five games in a row and haven’t conceded a single goal in their last four.

Centre-back Killian Brouder spoke to extratime.com after the game and the defender was pleased with the outcome of the game.

“Another win, another clean sheet, happy days. That’s what we come out to do every weekend, every week is a focus on a clean sheet and winning games and we came here and did it and we’re going up to Bray next week and hoping for the same,” Brouder said.

Galway are still a long way off catching Shelbourne who are currently top of the First Division but a draw with Treaty United on Friday means that that gap has now been reduced to nine points.

Brouder wouldn’t be drawn on what other teams are doing however, and he was quick to heap praise on Friday night’s opponents.

“We can’t control what other teams are doing around us, we just focus on ourselves,” the defender explained.

“I think that’s been embedded by John and the coaching staff. I think that’s what you need, you can’t go looking past other games.

“If you go looking past Cobh tonight you’re going to get punished, we saw that last year when we were five games on the bounce same as this year and we lost 1-0 to them.

“They’re an underdog team, I don’t think people give them credit for what they do. They have Charlie Lyons and Ben O’Riordan centre back I think they’re strong men and they’re hard to get past.

“When you’re playing Cobh it’s a battle and you have to be up for it. Once you win your first balls, your second balls maybe you’re going to get the win, at the end of the night here we’ve got the three points and the clean sheet so happy days.”

“If we get a clean sheet in a game you could get a point or three points as long as you keep the clean sheet.

“That’s the baseline for us, myself and Mo [Maurice Nugent], we developed a good partnership last year and it’s come on into this year as well. It was a bit of a slow start but things are going well now and we can’t complain.”

The Tribesmen will be looking to continue this run when they travel to the Carlisle Grounds to face Bray Wanderers this Friday (kick-off 7.30pm).
