League Report: Treaty United 1 - 1 Shelbourne

Dylan O'Connell reports from the Market's Field

A goal from Willie Armshaw in the final second of injury-time salvaged Treaty United a point on Friday, at the expense of high-flying Shelbourne at the Market Fields

The result ends the Red eight game winning streak, which produced eighteen goals from a free-flowing attack.

The goal which undid this fine run of form, was a spectacular strike into the top right hand corner in the final seconds of the four minutes of added time.

This cancelled out Michael O’Connor’s excellent bullet shot midway through the second half, which looked to have settled this tense First Division encounter.

Despite the dramatic finish, this was a cagey game at the Market Fields. Treaty were compact which restricted Shels to long range efforts, such as Michael O’Connor’s venomous shot, which stung the palms of Tadhg Ryan.

As Treaty began to assert themselves in the opposition half, Shels broke through Michael O’Connor, who picked off a stray pass in midfield. He charged forward with Jonathon Lunney in support and squared to his teammate. Tadhg Ryan dived in between and spread himself to catch the ball.

In the closing seconds of the first half, Dayle Rooney flicked on a corner from Kevin O’Connor and grazed the outside of the post.

The second half saw Shels dominant possession but fail to get through the organized Treaty back four.

Their breakthrough came a neat passage of play freed up Michael O’Connor inside the box. The striker used his chest to control and he fired in to make it 1-0.

Treaty were impassioned by this and powered forward in numbers in search of an equalizer. After a succession of mis-hits, Willie Armshaw smashed a ball into the top right corner from twenty five yards.
