Former Athlone Town underage player Dylan Gavin signs first professional contract with Charlton Athletic

Former Athlone Town underage star Dylan Gavin has signed his first professional contract with English side Charlton Athletic ahead of the start of their 2021/22 season.

Gavin played with Athlone Town’s under-15 side where he was part of a league winning side in 2017.

His two goals in the 2017 under-15 final against St Patrick’s Athletic clinched the crown for Athlone.

That Athlone Town side included now current UCD winger Adam Lennon and Israel Kimazo, who is with Athlone at the moment.

Gavin, since his exploits with Athlone, has been plying his trade in the UK with Charlton’s under-18 side.

“We already had Charlie Barker, Euan Williams and Aaron Henry on professional contracts, and now have Naz Bakrin, Jimmy Appiah, Jeremy Santos, Richard Chin, Terrell Agyemang, Dylan Gavin and Mason Burstow,” Charlton academy manager Steve Avory said.

“So, there’s actually 12 first year professionals - I think it’s the highest number of first year professionals we’ve ever had.

“It’s going to be a young under-23 group but we feel lots of potential there, an exciting group.”
