First Division Cork City have confirmed the departure of on-loan midfielder Jack Baxter.

Baxter proved to be an integral part of City’s midfield despite their lowly league position in the second-tier.

The Preston North End loanee also impressed during last night’s 2-1 defeat for City at the hands of Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

“Cork City FC can confirm that Jack Baxter has returned to Preston North End following the conclusion of his loan spell on Leeside,” Cork City said in a statement.

“Everyone at the club thanks Jack for his time at City, and wishes him the very best of luck for the future.”

The player himself said: “Was a pleasure to play for such a good club all the best for the rest of the season.”

Baxter is not the only Preston North End loanee to end his loan stint in the League of Ireland today – Adam O’Reilly’s stint at Waterford also came to an end.
