League Preview: Longford Town -v- Waterford

LONGFORD TOWN

Relegation threatened Longford Town host Waterford in a huge bottom of the table clash at Bishopsgate on Monday evening (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Red and Black impressed in Friday’s 1-1 draw away to Dundalk – but they were bailed out by keeper Lee Steacy on a number of occasions.

Steacy also saved Patrick Hoban’s spot-kick in the 73rd minute – but Town did have chances to win the game.

Dean Byrne saw his shot crash off the bar, while Dylan Grimes saw his low shot blocked off the line by Sam Stanton.

Then Aaron Dobbs went close himself as he got on the end of a superb ball into the box from Karl Chambers. But the ex-Shels forward could only direct the ball straight at Alessio Abibi.

But Town can take courage from that performance – and there will be no better time to get back to winning ways than against 9th placed Waterford.

In terms of team news, Callum Warfield remains out.

WATERFORD

Waterford make the trip to the Midlands for one of their biggest games of the season so far as they take on Longford Town.



The Blues won the last game between the sides at the RSC earlier this season, with Prince Mutswunguma’s strike the difference.

Mutswunguma pounced on a misplaced ball from Joe Gorman to slot home past Town keeper Mick Kelly.

However, Waterford are under new management since – and have already won under their new boss Marc Bircham.

Despite that, they did lose at home to Shamrock Rovers on Friday night after taking an early lead in front of 100 supporters for the first time this year.

In terms of team news for Waterford, Issac Tshipamba is expected to return from suspension.
