Promising Wexford Youths attacking midfielder Ellen Molloy has been drafted in as a late call-up to Vera Pauw’s Republic of Ireland squad ahead of this month’s friendlies away to Iceland.

Molloy was initially ruled out of the squad having missed out on Wexford Youth’s scoreless draw with Shelbourne at Tolka Park with an injury.

But she came through Saturday evening’s dramatic 2-2 draw away to Peamount United unscathed – and has moved back into the squad as a result.

The 17-year-old Co. Kilkenny native has made four appearances for the Girls in Green since being handed her debut under Pauw in 2020.

Molloy’s return to the squad also comes as Glasgow City forward Aoife Colvill has also earned a late call-up.

Colvill recently won the Scottish top-flight over the weekend – pipping Glasgow Celtic to the league title with a two-nil win over Glasgow Rangers.

It was a game that Irish international Niamh Farrelly scored in – as Glasgow City won their 14th consecutive league title.

Colvill qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland through her Donegal born grandmother and will train with Pauw’s squad before international clearance comes through.
