Dundalk full-back Terique Mohammed has joined Canadian side York United on loan from reigning FAI Cup holders Dundalk.

The 21-year-old was due to join Athlone Town on loan before the start of the 2021 season, along with Taner Dogan, but that deal fell through.

Mohammed joined the Lilywhites from Canadian Premier League side Edmonton and is a Canadian underage international.

He has been capped at both under-17 and under-20 level for his nation.

“Terique has worked with our staff before and is known to everyone in the league from his performances with Edmonton last year,” York United’s General Manager Angus McNab said.

“He's coming here to play games and compete for a starting role. It strengthens our defensive options even more and we are delighted to have him.”

In other Dundalk related news, defender Nicolas Vemmelund has announced his retirement from professional football.

The Danish defender played for the Lilywhites under Stephen Kenny and excelled at Oriel Park during his short stint at the club.
