DLR Waves returned to winning ways when they ran out 5-0 winners over Treaty United at Jackman Park on Sunday afternoon.

Their fifth win of the season sees the Dublin side move to within a point of Wexford Youths who occupy third place in the Women’s National League.

Ciara Maher opened the scoring for the visitors, with her first goal of the season, with Carla McManus and Katie Malone netting two more for Waves before halftime.

Shauna Carroll scored in the second half with Carla McManus doubling her own tally for the afternoon to round out the scoring.

The visitors had the first real chance when Kerri Letmon took the ball down the right flank in the third minute before squaring the ball to Carla McManus who was waiting at the near post.

The striker had her back to goal but she still managed to get a shot off, drawing a save from Treaty goalkeeper Michaela Mitchell.

Both sides had chances in the twelfth minute when Ciara Maher drew a good diving safe from Mitchell with a long range effort.

Gillian Keenan almost scored for the home side immediately after as she ran onto Mitchell’s long ball up the field. Eve Badana was off her line and Keenan took advantage with a shot past the goalkeeper but Niamh Barnes managed to track back quick enough to clear the ball off the line.

Waves took the lead in the 21st minute when Maher took aim from outside the box after receiving the ball from Nadine Clare. The ball nestled into the top corner but after taking a deflection off a Treaty defender along the way.

Jenna Slattery nearly levelled the game just three minutes later when she spotted Badana off her line and fired a shot off from forty yards, but the ball clipped the crossbar and went behind.

McManus doubled the visitors’ lead just before the half hour mark after Letmon sent a lovely cross deep into the box, the striker was left unmarked in the box and rose to head the ball into the rood of the net.

A wonder strike from Katie Malone gave Waves their third goal of the afternoon when she took aim from outside the box with five minutes to go in the first half. Mitchell dove to save the ball but the powerful shot rattled the roof of the net.

The home side had a great chance to reduce the deficit in the 53rd minute after a powerful run through the centre of the field by Jenna Slattery.

The midfielder laid the ball off for halftime substitute Cara Griffin on the right who rifled a shot at goal, with Eve Badana needing to be alert to deflect the ball behind on her near side.

Shauna Carroll added the fourth for Waves in the 57th minute after McManus headed the ball on to her teammate on the left side of the field. The midfielder fired a blistering effort goalward with the ball rattling the crossbar but falling over the line.

Waves netted for the fifth and final time with just three minutes to go when Niamh Prior sent a searching ball high and forward, finding the path of McManus. The striker took the ball into the box before slotting the ball into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
