Premier Division Round-Up: Dundalk stun Rovers at Oriel, while Pats strike late at home to Bohs

Dundalk brought an end to Shamrock Rovers’ 33-game unbeaten domestic record as they recorded a 2-1 win over the Hoops at Oriel Park on Friday evening.

Goals from firstly Patrick McEleney and then Kelly, cancelled out Joey O’Brien’s first half equalise and put Stephen Bradley’s side to the sword on a cool evening at Oriel Park.

Stephen O’Donnell’s St Patrick’s Athletic struck late with Robbie Benson’s late spot-kick proving to be the difference between the sides in their clash against Bohemians at Richmond Park.

Georgie Kelly had missed from the spot in the first-half before the Athletic took the lead through Matty Smith in the 74th minute of the game.

Dawson Devoy then scored from a penalty kick in the 89th minute to score what looked to be an equaliser – but it was not to be as the Saints struck another blow to Bohs’ stuttering season.

Sligo Rovers also heaped the misery on Longford Town with a 2-0 win over their N4 rivals at the Showgrounds.

Goals from Walter Figueira and Jordan Gibson were the difference between the sides as Daire Doyle’s charges winless run stretched to ten games.

Meanwhile, Dane Massey struck home another free-kick for his new club Drogheda United – this time in second-half injury time to see off Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

And Waterford boss Marc Bircham was unable to begin his reign in the grand manner as his new side were defeated 1-0 at home to Derry City.

Ronan Boyce’s third minute header was the difference between the sides as the Candystripes moved further away from the Blues to ease their early season worries.
