Wexford appoint Lorcan Fitzgerald as assistant manager

First Division side Wexford have appointed Shelbourne legend Lorcan Fitzgerald as the club’s new assistant manager.

Fitzgerald joins Ian Ryan’s backroom team just days after the ex-UCD assistant manager took charge of the Slaneysiders.

The former Bohemians and St Patrick’s Athletic full-back left Shels following their relegation to the First Division at the end of last season.

He joins Ryan’s coaching ticket as a player also – something that the ex-UCD assistant manager was pleased with.

“I am over the moon that Lorcan has agreed to come in as my assistant,” Ryan told his club’s media team.

“He’s someone I played with, trust but most importantly he is the character that’s going to embody this group. A young, hungry, ambitious coach that will set extremely high standards.

“The added bonus is that we get an high quality experienced player to use when called upon.

“You don’t play for the clubs Lorcan has without being extremely talented. I think it speaks volumes that we can attract someone of Lorcan’s calibre."

The club have also confirmed that Jason Carey has joined the club as opposition analyst.

“I am also very pleased to have Jason Carey as our Opposition Analyst. Jason is a man with vast football experience and knowledge.

“He will help with our preparation by viewing teams around the league.”
