WNL Round-up: Wins for the top four as Peamount United, Shelbourne, Wexford and DLR Waves emerge victorious

Each team in the top four claimed victory on Saturday to keep things unchanged in the top half of the Women's National League table.

Shelbourne started off the weekend with a 5-0 win over Galway at Tolka Park in the early kick-off on Saturday.

The Reds raced into a four goal lead in the first half after goals from Jessiaca Ziu, Jamie Finn, Ciara Grant and Saoirse Noonan.

Noelle Murray finished off the scoring in the 75th minute with her fourth goal of the season to give Galway their second heavy defeat in a row.

Peamount United claimed their 13th WNL win in a row when they ran out 3-1 winners over Cork City at Greenogue.

The sides went into the second half on level terms as Cork’s Eve Mangan scored an equaliser in the 42nd minute to cancel out Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s 15th minute opening goal.

Ryan-Doyle added a second for Peas in the 66th minute tbefore Aine O’Gorman netted for the third game in a row to end the game in the 83rd minute.

Wexford Youths secured their fifth win in a row when they beat Bohemians 7-1 at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday evening.

A brace from Kylie Murphy and a third goal from Aisling Frawley put Tom Elmes’ side into a 3-0 lead going into the second half.

An own goal for the Gypsies followed in the 56th minute with Kim Flood scoring her first of the season for Youths five minutes later.



Bohemians’ Erica Burke pulled one back for the visitors before Lauren Kelly scored a brace for the home side to finish the scoring for the day.

DLR Waves claimed their fourth win of the season when they travelled to face Athlone Town on Saturday evening.

It was a hard fought victory for Graham Kelly’s side with Carla McManus’ 7th minute header the only goal of the game to give Waves a 1-0 win to take back to Dublin.
