Cork City are enduring a very difficult start to the season suffering four defeats in a row and occupying second last place in the First Division.

Having beaten Cobh Ramblers 2-1 at home in their opening match of the campaign, hopes would have been high that they would push on and take advantage of the good start by putting some more points on the board, however, that is not how it has materialised for Colin Healy’s young side, last Friday’s 2-1 loss away to Treaty Utd their fourth straight defeat in a row.

At the club’s weekly press conference, Healy said  "it is difficult to take, we have lost four in a row, all we can do is keep working hard in training and identify areas where we need to improve.

"The most disappointing aspect of our play is the goals we are conceding, we have been done on a corner and on a throw in, we are giving goals away too easily at the moment."

In relation to the pressure that follows such a bad start to the season, Healy was very forthright, saying, "in this job you are always under pressure, this is a big club which has high standards, we know that four defeats in a row is not good enough for this club, but all we can do is to come in to training, work hard with next Friday’s match in mind, hopefully we can get a good result on Friday night."

The former City player turned boss also had a message for the Cork supporters.

"Our fans need to stick with us, we know these are difficult times at the moment, we are doing all we can inside in the training ground, so hopefully things will turn around for us sooner rather than later’’.  He also added ‘’ we have a very young side, its going to be tough going for a while, the players know that, and we all knew at the start of the season that the standards in the First Division this season are probably even higher than that in any previous season."

Cork travel to Bray on Friday for their next match, and Healy confirmed that Steven Beatty and Cory Calvin are definitely out injured while Gearoid Morrissey’s availability is also in doubt, as a result he will not be able to select his side to face the Seagulls until after their Thursday training session.

Healy recognises the quality of the Bray side having worked with some of their players, in particular Brandon Kavanagh and Brian Maher, in the Irish under-age set up while also identifying that they are very compact at the back with former City player Aaron Barry forming a solid partnership with Andrew Quinn.

Bray Wanderers host Cork City at the Carlisle Grounds Bray on Friday April 30th, K.O. 19.30.
