Drogheda United manager Tim Clancy felt his side deserved to get something out of their derby game against Dundalk on Saturday evening after dominating the second half.

Dundalk survived a late scare when Chris Lyons scored in the 90th minute to set up a grandstand finish at Oriel Park. Clancy felt the performance from his side in the second half warranted more.

“It’s another very good performance,” said Clancy. “We’re really down after that result. The mood in the dressing room is deflated and I think after our second half performance we probably deserved something from the game.”

Drogheda have come out on the wrong side of results at times, conceding late winners to St. Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers this season and Clancy vented his frustration at his side being unable to convert good performances into results at times.

“It’s frustrating, we look for points rather than performances. The performances are there so hopefully we can add points to them.”

His team struggled to get into the game but only went in at half time a goal in arears. Clancy made a few half-time tweaks to his side which saw them dominate the second period.

Dundalk scored against the run of play to double their lead with 20 minutes to play through Han Jeongwoo. Clancy was proud of the character his side showed in not giving up on the game.

“We were pushing for an equaliser, then they caught us on the break which might have been against the run of play but we didn’t stop after that.

“That’s a game that Dundalk might have gone on to win three or four nil a couple of years ago but we kept going and got a goal back late on and we were pushing right at the end for an equaliser,” he said.

The half time changes paid dividends in allowing right back James Brown to venture further up the field and he was impressive yet again in the second half.

“Jimmy’s been brilliant for the last two years in the First Division, but nobody really takes notice of the First Division. We know what he’s capable of, he was very good again in this game.”
