Wexford secure the services of goalkeeper Sean Martin

Wexford completed the signing of 19-year-old Kinnegad native Sean Martin recently

Martin will complete their goalkeeping complement for the 2021 season joining existing goalkeepers Tom Murphy and Jimmy Corcoran in what is largely a very youthful squad assembled by manager Brian O Sullivan

Martin was previously on the underage squads in Longford Town and Drogheda Utd and when speaking to Wexford's media team he said, "I am really looking forward to working with great keepers such as Tom and Jimmy, both of whom have played in England with Everton and Preston respectively. I am hoping to learn a lot from them as the season goes on, they are both very experienced keepers."

The new signing went on to add: "I have really been enjoying pre season since I came in. The lads have been very welcoming and there is real quality in the squad. I have really enjoyed training with goalkeeping coach Colin Gregan, I feel like I have benefited a lot in a short time and I’m look forward to working with him more.’’

The average age of the Wexford squad for the forthcoming season is only 21 so they will look to some of the more experienced members of the squad such a club captain Dan Tobin (ex-UCD  where he made a remarkable 103 appearances including 30 in the Premier Division), Alex O Hanlon (ex-Liverpool U 23, St Patricks Athletic, Glentoran and Shelbourne) and Karl Manahan (a centre forward who made 19 appearances for the side last season having joined from Cabinteely in February 2020) to steer them through the season ahead.

Wexford will be hoping for a better season than 2020 where they finished 9th in a 10 team division, and O Sullivan and his back room team will get their first indication of their prospects for the 2021 season when they kick off their campaign with a home game in Ferrycarrig Park against Cabinteely on Friday March 26th.
