Stephen Kenny has been handed a timely boost ahead of this month’s World Cup qualifying double-header with Serbia and Luxembourg as captain Seamus Coleman is set for a return to action.

The right-back was introduced for the final 18 minutes of Saturday's Premier League defeat to Burnley following a three-week absence.

Coleman sat out the Toffee’s last three fixtures after picking up an injury in training following the 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Liverpool.

The 32-year-old has been beset by a series of niggling injuries - including a hamstring issue aggravated on international duty in November - but remains a key player for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Coleman’s return will come as welcome news to Kenny as he frets over fresh injury doubts for strikers Adam Idah and Aaron Connolly.

Kenny names his squad for the games with Serbia and Luxembourg, and the friendly with Qatar in Budapest, on Thursday with a number of key players set to miss out.

Goalkeeper Darren Randolph and defender John Egan are confirmed absent, while Caoimhín Kelleher and James McClean have sat out the past number of weeks with injury.
