Cork City continue their preparations for the 2021 season with the unveiling of Finland under-21 international Jonas Hakkinen from FC Haka.

Hakkinen previously had spells with the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy in Canada and Vaasan Palloseura (VPS) in Finland’s top tier.

City boss Colin Healy welcomed confirmation of Häkkinen’s signing, saying: “We are pleased to get Jonas in.

“He has good experience already at a decent level in Finland, and, once we became aware he was available, we were keen to bring him to the club.

“I am confident he will be a good addition to our group and we look forward to bringing him to training.”

Hakkinen can play at centre back or as a defensive midfielder and he will add to the competition for places at City.

Healy has assembled a youthful squad as City attempt to regain their Premier Division status following relegation last season.

City, who recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Waterford at the RSC on Saturday, will have Hakkinen at training in Bishopston during the week.

The versatile Hakkinen and he may well feature in their next outing, a friendly against Finn Harps in Ballybofey on March 13th.
