Former Drogheda United player Aaron Molloy has signed for American side Forward Madison.

Molloy played for Drogheda during their 2016 First Division campaign before making the move to play college soccer at Keiser University and then Penn State.

During the college soccer offseason Molloy lined out for Philadelphia Union’s development side Reading United and was awarded the USL League Two Young Player of the Year in 2017.

The midfielder was a first round pick for the Portland Timbers in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft and he spent last year with the club’s USL Championship affiliate.

“When I talked to [Head] Coach [Carl] Craig, I was absolutely thrilled with everything he had to say, from the atmosphere at the stadium to the culture he’s trying to create,” Molloy said, speaking to the club’s website.

“When I got off the phone, I called my agent straight away and said this is somewhere I want to be. I’m absolutely buzzing to get going.”

“The community is a huge part of it, and for me that’s absolutely fantastic.

“I want to go to Madison and win a championship. That’s the biggest thing for me, I want to be part of a winning environment.”

The 24 year old joins former St Patrick’s Athletic and Galway United striker Jake Keegan at the USL League One club.
