The departure of Aaron McEneff from Shamrock Rovers to Hearts on Monday saw another of the league’s highest-rated talents fly the coop for professional football elsewhere.

The midfielder’s reported €200,000 price tag, if accurate, is a rare example of a real-life valuation for a player in a league where transfer fees are a relatively rare phenomenon.

Jack Byrne, twice the players’ player of the year, was the league’s most valuable player before he joined APOEL in January, but he moved for free on a Bosman so his market value is speculative.

One website that does attempt the difficult business of putting market values on players is German site Transfermarkt.de.

Following his move to APOEL, they’ve put a valuation of €800,000 on Byrne, and have followed news reports by placing a €200,000 valuation on McEneff’s head.

But with managers at home and abroad still putting the final touches to their squads for 2021, we ask can you name the 20 most valuable players in the League of Ireland, according to Transfermarkt?
