Dundalk complete signing of ex-Dundee Utd and Hibs midfielder Sam Stanton

FAI Cup holders Dundalk have completed the signing of former Dundee United midfielder Sam Stanton ahead of the 2021 season.

The 26-year-old joins the Lilywhites after leaving USL Championship side Phoenix Rising last month.

The former Scottish under-21 international is also formerly of Hibs, Livingston and Dumbarton.

Stanton is Dundalk’s fifth new recruit of the off-season and admits that he made his mind up about joining after speaking with manager Filippo Giovagnoli.

“I had a phone call with Filippo Giovagnoli and I really liked what he said to me,” Stanton told dundalkfc.com.

“Dundalk is a good club and I’m really excited to be here. I felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t really turn down.”

Dundalk sporting director Jim Magilton added: “I’m delighted to welcome Sam to the club.

“He will provide real competition and experience to an area of the pitch where we needed strengthening following recent departures and I know we are all really looking forward to working with him and developing his game even further.”
