Longford Town retain youngsters Ben Lynch and Thomas McLaughlin for 2021

Recently promoted Longford Town have unveiled the re-signings of Ben Lynch and Thomas McLaughlin for the 2021 Premier Division campaign.

Both players were involved with Longford’s under-19 set-up during the 2020 campaign, with Lynch being promoted to the first-team midway through last season.

Lynch was drafted in as cover in the full-back positions following the departure of Eric Abulu halfway through last year.

McLaughlin missed out on most of last season with a long-term injury, and has yet to make a competitive appearance for De Town.

A midfielder by trade, the teenager broke his leg before the start of the 2020 season, seeing him miss out on the season completely.

“Both lads were involved with the 19's and the first team last year so they're going to step up and compete at this level,” Longford boss Daire Doyle told his club’s media team.

“Ben is a promising left back and Thomas, a central midfielder.

“It's great to reward youngsters coming through our underage ranks and I'm delighted to see both step up as they have great potential.”
