Preston North End sign Jayson Molumby on loan from Premier League Brighton

Irish international Jayson Molumby has signed on loan for Championship side Preston until the end of the season. The Brighton midfielder will join fellow Irish international team mates Sean Maguire and Alan Browne at Deepdale.

The 21-year-old impressed while on loan at Millwall last season, appearing 40 times for the Lions. The talented playmaker has also earned five caps for his national side to date.

The Waterford native expressed his delight in signing on loan for the Lilywhites for the remainder of the season.

“I am really happy to be here,” Molumby told the club's website.

“I spoke to the gaffer and the Irish boys here, who I know quite well, and it was a no brainer in the end and I am looking forward to getting started.

"Seani and Alan speak very highly of the club and then the gaffer spoke to me and was the same and, in the end, I just wanted to get it done and I am really excited to get going and I just want to play some games and help the team.

“It was tough for me in the last few months, maybe taking a risk with Brighton, hoping to break into the first team and it didn’t quite work out, but I am actually buzzing.

“I feel quite good and confident and I am just looking forward to playing and picking up as many wins and points as we can.”

He added, “One of the biggest things for me is playing for my country and I wanted to go out on loan and play games to hopefully stay involved and keep getting picked for my country.

"There is no bigger thing for me and hopefully I can do well and kick-on again and try and get as many caps for Ireland as I can."

Preston North End manager Alex Neil was pleased to bring in the promising Irish midfielder.

“It has been a very good bit of business from us and with good players, you can’t afford to wait,” Neil told the club's website.

“It is easy for us to wait until later in the window to find out what is happening with some of the other lads, but when players like Jayson become available, you need to act and that is exactly what we have done.

“We have had to fend off a lot of other Championship clubs, but he has seen us as a really good prospect.

“He understands the dynamic of the club and what we are trying to do and it helps that he knows some of the Irish lads that we have got here as well.”

The Preston manager added,“he is a highly-competitive player; he gets about the pitch, is aggressive, wants to get on the ball and he will add a lot of things to the team – energy and determination.

“He is an Irish international at 21, he captained the U21s for Ireland as well, so he has leadership qualities and we are looking forward to him coming in and doing really well for us.”
