Matt Doherty was shown a red card in injury time as Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 win over Leeds United.

The right-back was shown a second yellow card in the dying moments for a clumsy challenge on Pablo Hernández and will miss the trip to Marine in the FA Cup next Sunday.

Swords man Doherty has only just won his place back in the starting line-up after being second-choice to Serge Aurier for much of his debut season at White Hart Lane.

The 28-year-old was for last week’s 1-1 draw with former club Wolverhampton Wanderers and maintained his place for the visit of in-form Leeds.

Doherty saw his side go in 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, and they added a third early in the second half as Toby Alderweireld headed home from a corner.

The defender picked up a yellow card shortly afterwards as he appeared to slip and swing wildly in the direction of Luke Ayling.

And with one of the three minutes of injury time played, the former Bohemians man caught Hernández on the top of the boot and was deservedly shown a second yellow.
