Athlone Town snap up ex-Dundalk forward Kurtis Byrne from Waterford

First Division Athlone Town have unveiled the signing of former Dundalk forward Kurtis Byrne from Waterford.

Byrne joins the likes of James Doona, Kilian Cantwell and Adam Wixted in all joining the Co. Westmeath side ahead of the 2021 campaign.

However, Adrian Carberry’s side have seen the departures of both Ronan Manning and Adam Lennon ahead of next season.

Byrne began his senior career with Hibernian in 2009 before joining Ross County in 2011. While in Scotland, the forward played on loan for Stirling Albion, East Fife, Alloa Athletic and Brechin City.

He would then join Dundalk ahead of the 2013 season, and he left the club following the end of the 2015 season.

He then joined Bohemians before then making the switch to St Patrick’s Athletic. His stint at Richmond Park was just as short as he then joined Linfield.

Following his spell at Windsor Park, he then joined TNS in Wales where he would play in both the Champions and Europa League for the Welsh side.

He later joined Waterford for the truncated 2020 campaign, where the 30-year-old made 13 appearances for the club as they ultimately missed out on European qualification.
