Athlone Town snap up Killian Cantwell from Bray Wanderers

First Division Athlone Town have confirmed the signing of central defender Killian Cantwell from Bray Wanderers.

The 25-year-old joins Adrian Carberry’s charges after he nearly helped guide the Seagulls to top-flight promotion in 2020.

Cantwell was part of the Bray side that were pipped to the First Division title by Drogheda United. They were also knocked out of the play-offs by Galway United.

Following his impressive 2020 campaign, the former Limerick defender was named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year.

But he has since decided to make the move to Athlone Town who are managed by Adrian Carberry.

The Co. Westmeath side came 9th in the First Division last season and reached the FAI Cup semi-finals.

Cantwell joins his former Bray teammates Derek Daly, Brandon McCann and Jack Watson in joining the club from the Co. Wicklow side.

Athlone have also snapped up Michael Schlingermann, James Doona and Adam Wixted ahead of the 2021 campaign.
