Paul Cleary re-joins Wexford from St Patrick's Athletic

First Division Wexford have confirmed the return of defender Paul Cleary from St Patrick’s Athletic ahead of the 2021 season.

Cleary – a Leinster Senior Cup winner with St Pats – joined the Slaneysiders prior to the start of the 2020 season initially.

However, his stint in the South-East was cut short after he was drafted back into the Saints’ first-team plans after the Covid-19 break.

Despite seeing his first stint at Ferrycarrig Park cut short, the defender impressed with Brian O’Sullivan’s side.

While with the club, he started in 4 competitive matches in 2020 for Wexford, keeping one clean sheet against Galway United.

And Wexford boss Brian O’Sullivan is pleased to have his defender back for 2021: “We are delighted to get Paul back. He was a massive loss to us last season when St. Pat’s took him back from his loan spell.

“I think Paul is going to make us defensively better cause he has lots of qualities. He is excellent in the air and attacks the ball so will be good for us in both boxes.”
