Drogheda United sign ex-Finn Harps defender Daniel O'Reilly from Shelbourne

Recently promoted Drogheda United have confirmed the acquisition of Daniel O’Reilly from Shelbourne.

O’Reilly joins the Boynesiders after a previously plying his trade in the League of Ireland with Bray Wanderers, Longford Town, Finn Harps, and most recently, Shelbourne.

The 25-year-old joined the Reds prior to the start of the 2020 campaign from Finn Harps, but he struggled to assert himself as one of the key men in Ian Morris’ side.

He made nine appearances for Shels in 2020, starting in six games while coming off the bench in three others.

However, after becoming Drogs’ fourth new signing for 2021, O’Reilly is excited by the prospect of continuing his time in the Premier Division.

“I’ve spoken to Tim over the last couple of years and it just didn’t work out for whatever reason, but I was in contact with him during the week,” O’Reilly said while explaining his move to Drogheda.

“I’m delighted to be able to work with him. I’ve worked with Kevin (Doherty) before. I’m over the moon to get the deal done and to be playing in the Premier Division again for another year.”

He added: “For me I want to play as much as possible and help the team do as best as we can.

As a group, we want to try show people why Drogheda got promoted last year and take it from there, take each game as it comes, and I think we’ll be alright.”
