Longford Town re-sign play-off hero Joe Gorman as teenagers Matthew O’Brien and Callum Warfield also commit to 2021 at Bishopsgate

Longford Town have confirmed the re-signing of play-off hero Joe Gorman ahead of their 2021 top-flight return.

Gorman, who struggled to get a game at times prior to the last few weeks of the season, came to the fore during the play-offs.

He memorably scored twice for Longford in their play-off win over UCD in October with two headers.

“Joe is a great player to get back in for us,” Longford boss Daire Doyle told his club’s media team. “He really performed towards the end of the season for us and was outstanding.

“He contributed two goals in the playoffs and for a centre back, that's fantastic. He's great to have around the team and he has a big year ahead of him now in the Premier Division.”

Also re-signing is teenage duo Matthew O’Brien and Callum Warfield who both enjoyed memorable first years in senior football.

O’Brien impressed in his first year with Longford, with his first, and only goal of the season coming in the 3-0 win away to Cabinteely.

Warfield also played a key role at times, most notably setting up the winner for the club’s 3-2 play-off win over UCD.

“It's great to get the two lads back for 2021,” Town boss Doyle added. “Matthew is someone that has great potential at such a young age, and he's showed he can cut it at this level with his performances throughout the year.

“Callum is a huge presence to have for the team. He causes every team problems with his physicality and played an important role in our push for promotion this year.

“I'm delighted they've signed on for the new season.”
