Dundalk’s defeat at home to Rapid last week ended their chances of progressing from the group stages but there are still significant financial advantages if they can manage a win in Molde.

The Lilywhites have taken no points from their four games to date and, with Arsenal to come in the Aviva next week, the trip to Norway looks their most realistic chance of points on the board.

Molde ran out 2-1 winners when the sides met on the opening day in Tallaght, despite Sean Murray heading the home side into a first-half lead.

Goals from Etzaz Hussain and Ohi Omoijuanfo turned the game around in the second half as the Norwegians kicked off their campaign with a win.

With six points from their four games, the home side are in with a realistic chance of progression from Group B but Dundalk will be keen to spoil the party.

Who are they key players to watch?

The match-winner in both of Molde’s opening games will need little introduction, and Omi Omoijuanfo will be confident of hitting the scoresheet again after blanks against Arsenal.

The tall striker provides a focal point in attack for Molde’s underlapping wingers to draw out opposition centre-halves, and the front three tore Dundalk apart in the second half in Tallaght.

He scored Dundalk’s only goal against Rapid and notched again in the 11-0 win over Athlone Town at the weekend, but it’s further back the field where Chris Shields’ presence will be felt.

One of the league’s outstanding midfielders in recent years will have his work cut out in a holding role but, generally, when he is on song, Dundalk more often than not win games.
