Champions League Round-Up: Ireland’s Caoimhin Kelleher stars for Liverpool while Inter Milan win thriller in Germany

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher played a starring role in Liverpool’s 1-0 win at home to Dutch giants Ajax this evening.

The Corkonian produced a string of saves to earn Liverpool a big win at Anfield. Curtis Jones scored the winner for the Reds just before the hour mark.

Elsewhere in the group, Italian side Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Danish side FC Midtjylland.

Liverpool have now secured their spot in the last 16 of the competition. Meanwhile, Inter Milan won a five-goal thriller in Germany against Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Former Manchester United full-back gave the Nerazzurri a first-half lead before it was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time. Romelu Lukaku then scored twice to give Inter a two-goal lead.

But they had to survive an onslaught from Moenchengladbach late on, holding out for a three-two win.

Elsewhere in the group, Real Madrid are on the brink of missing out of the knockout stages altogether after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat away to Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk.

They must win their final group game at home to Moenchengladbach if they are to harbour any hopes of making the last 16 of the competition.

In Group A, Champions League holders Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid, while Salzburg won 3-1 away to Lokomotiv Moscow.

In Group C, Manchester City secured top spot thanks to a draw away to FC Porto, while Olympiacos lost 2-1 away to Marseille in France.
