Galway United's Shane Doherty eyes promotion after re-signing for 2021

Galway United forward Shane Doherty has said that he is focusing on getting the Tribesmen back to the top-flight after re-signing for the 2021 campaign.

Doherty played a key role in the Tribesmen’s unlikely 2020 promotion – and he has now re-signed for John Caulfield’s charges for 2021.

“I was over the moon to be back at Galway United,” Doherty told Galway’s media team. “It was such a strange season with everything going on, but to be involved so much really made me fall back in love with things.

“Being a part of the run, we went on was really special. There was no question this was where I wanted to be after the momentum we had.

“It was a disappointing end, but it has only left us hungrier for the season ahead.

“John has put a lot of faith in me as a player. I have a lot to improve on, but I want to give 100% to the cause. The main focus has to be on the team and promotion.”

Manager John Caulfield added: “Doherty has been outstanding for me, on and off the pitch.

“We feel he’s a player that can get better with every day of training. Shane has tremendous pace, he knows he needs to continue to work on his game and positioning, but he’s a player that is willing to learn and wants to prove himself.

“As our supporters know, he’s a guy that can win a match on his day and he’s made a really big impact at the club.”
