Chris Lyons re-signs for Drogheda United

Drogheda United have confirmed that forward Chris Lyons has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

He is the seventh player to have re-signed for the club ahead of their 2021 top-flight return.

The forward joined the club ahead of the 2018 season from Shelbourne and scored 8 times in 29 games during his first season with the club.

He would then re-sign for 2019 and netted 15 times in 28 outings – while also being nominated for the PFAI First Division Player of the Year Award.

“It was a no brainer for me to sign back for Drogheda,” he told his club’s media team. “I have played here for three seasons.

He added: “I personally want to play and help the team as much as I can. Hopefully I can have a better season fitness wise for myself as last year was a nightmare for myself.

“As in my fitness, I was struggling from after lockdown.

“And for the team to just compete against the best and show how good we can be, take each game as it comes and mostly to enjoy it.

“We have a great team spirit and that comes from the management. They are excellent around the lads so that helps us on the pitch. And we always stick together as we seen last year.”
