Drogheda re-sign Kane, Doyle and Hyland as Clancy gets set for a top-flight return

Newly promoted Drogheda United have confirmed the re-signings of trio Conor Kane, Mark Doyle and Jake Hyland ahead of the 2021 season.

Drogheda make their top-flight return having won the First Division last month on the final day of the season away to Cabinteely.

22-year-old full-back Conor Kane has asserted himself as one of the key players in Tim Clancy’s squad since 2018.

After his arrival at the club, he has made 108 appearances, scoring once.

I’ve really enjoyed my time with Drogheda. Also playing under Tim and Kev was a massive influence (in signing back).

“I really enjoy playing for them. We had a great season last year so looking to continue that trend,” Kane told his club’s media team after signing for the 2021 season.

Also re-signing is talismanic forward Mark Doyle. Doyle scored 13 goals last season for Drogheda and he will be hoping to make a similar mark this year.

“I wanted to sign back because we’ve worked so hard for three seasons now trying to get out of the First Division

“We fell at the last hurdle last season, so we were determined to get up this year and win the title and now I’m dying to get going again in the Premier,” he said.

In addition, it has also been confirmed that captain Jake Hyland will remain at the club for 2021.

“Look, it was an easy decision. We set out to win the league last season and we achieved that goal as a group so there’s some good continuity in place which I think will stand to us in the Premier Division.

“I’ve enjoyed playing under Tim and Kev and I feel like I am improving so it was a no brainer really,” Hyland said.

“I’m sure Tim will be setting us aims as a group but the main aim for a newly promoted team in any league should be to stay in the league and establish yourselves. Hopefully we can do that this coming season and surprise a few people along the way.”
