Euro 2020 Play-Offs Round-Up: Scotland qualify for first major tournament since 1998, while Northern Ireland crash out against Slovakia

Scotland have qualified for their first major tournament since 1998 thanks to a penalty shootout win over Serbia.

David Marshall’s save from Alexander Mitrovic’s spot-kick saw the Scots come through their tie, and they will now be playing in Euro 2020.

They took the lead in normal-time thanks to a Ryan Christie strike in the 52nd minute. However, they would see their lead evaporate late on as Luka Jovic headed home from a corner.

But that would not deter the Scots – and they would eventually seal their passage into the European Championships.

Meanwhile, Slovakia secured their spot in the European Championship’s thanks to an extra-time win over Northern Ireland.

Slovakia – who defeated Ireland in their last game – took a first-half lead, before they were pegged back in the 87th minute following a Milan Skriniar own-goal.

But the Slovaks ensured they would not leave Belfast without a win as Michal Duris fired home in the 110th minute.

Elsewhere, Hungary completed an incredible fightback win at home to Iceland in Budapest – with two late goals seeing them through.

And in the night’s other game, North Macedonia reached the Euros thanks to a 1-0 win away to Georgia. Former Inter Milan star Goran Pandev scored the winner for the Macedonians.
