Dublin musician For Those I Love unfurls 'Coolock Reds' Shelbourne flag on BBC's Later With Jools Holland

Music-loving Shelbourne fans – at least those not tuned into the First Division play-off final – got an unexpected surprise during For Those I Love’s performance on Later… With Jools Holland.

The Dublin electronic artist For Those I Love – born David Balfe – unfurled a Shels flag with the tagline ‘Coolock Reds’ towards the end of his performance of ‘I Have a Love’ on the iconic BBC variety show.

Balfe wrote the single, which has been playlisted on 2FM and BBC Radio 1, in tribute to his friend and former bandmate Paul Curran, who sadly passed away in 2018.

After uttering the song’s final chorus line of ‘I have a love and it will never fade… and either will you, Paul,’ Balfe unknots the flag from the mic stand and holds it out as the camera pans away.

‘I Have a Love’ is the first single from Balfe’s forthcoming debut self-titled album, which is due for release early next year on September recordings.

The nine-track album was written in the aftermath of Curran’s passing and tackles the struggles of a working-class upbringing in Dublin.

The record shines a light on sexism, classism, the prison-industrial complex and other issues that affect working-class communities in the city.

The second single, ‘Top Scheme,’ is out now.
