Peamount United to line up against familiar faces as Champions League draw pits them with Glasgow City

Peamount United will face some familiar faces in the Champions League first round as they travel to face Scottish champions Glasgow City next month.

James O’Callaghan’s side face a tough task against a side who reached the quarter finals of last year’s competition before losing to eventual finalists Wolfsburg.

They avoided the more complicated logistical challenge of Belgian champions Anderlecht, who will instead host Linfield in Brussels.

Should they manage to upset Glasgow, the Peas face a trip to either Belfast or Brussels to face the winner of that tie.

Glasgow City have won the Scottish Premier League in each of the last 13 seasons, and have won a record 14 in total.

They boast a host of internationals in their side, including Scotland’s Leanne Crichton and Lee Alexander and Irish duo Tyler Toland and Clare Shine.

Toland moved north of the border on loan this month after injury halted her progress at Manchester City, while Shine recently returned to the field following a personal break.

The Peas have a host of internationals of their own, however, with captain Aine O’Gorman, keeper Niamh Reid-Burke and midfielder Niamh Farrell in the Ireland squad to face Ukraine on Friday.

Peamount are two points clear in the race to seal their second title on the spin, and fourth in total, with three games remaining in the second phase of the season.
