First Division Round-Up: Cobh Ramblers impress away to Longford as Shamrock Rovers II see off Athlone

Cobh Ramblers breathed new life into their promotion play-off hunt as they saw off Longford Town on Saturday evening.

The Rams were full value for their win over De Town as Ian Turner’s 48th minute winner was enough to earn Cobh the win.

Turner picked up on a superb pass from Stephen O’Leary before lifting the ball over the diving grasp of Lee Steacy in the Longford Town goal.

In the day’s earlier game, Shamrock Rovers II won their final home league game of the season versus Athlone Town.

Rovers came from behind after Ciaran Grogan’s goal, to claim all three points thanks to a goal from Brandon Kavanagh either side of strikes from Thomas Oluwa.

The result moved the Hoops young side within a point of the Midlanders who are in eighth place in the First Division table.
