First Division Round-Up: Longford and UCD bounce back with wins while Cobh ease past Wexford

First Division Longford Town bounced back from their heavy 6-2 defeat at home to Galway United last weekend with a 3-0 win away to Cabinteely.

Matthew O’Brien scored in the 17th minute to score his first senior League of Ireland goal, before Rob Manley netted twice in the final ten minutes of the game.

The result sees Longford move to within a point of Drogheda United while Cabo remain in fifth, behind UCD on goal difference.

UCD also bounced back from a defeat last weekend as they saw off Athlone Town by four goals to two at Lissywoolen.

Jack Reynold’s gave Adrian Carberry’s side a first-half lead, but they could not hold out as UCD ramped up the pressure in the second-half.

Evan Weir, Yoyo Mahdy and Colm Whelan all scored in a rampant nine-minute spell for the Students as Mahdy netted his second ten minutes from time.

Elsewhere, there was a convincing 4-0 for Cobh Ramblers away to Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park.

Darryl Walsh, Conor Drinan and Pierce Phillips all scored for the Rams in a whirlwind opening half-hour for the visitors.

Stephen O’Leary grabbed the fourth and final goal of the game in the 52nd minute to cap off a good night at the office for Stuart Ashton’s side.
