First Division Round-Up: Galway produce stirring fightback win while Cabo net late injury-time winner

Galway United may have produced one of the most incredible fightbacks of recent League of Ireland history as they defeated Longford Town by six goals to two at Bishopsgate.

Longford Town dominated the opening stages of the first-half and deservedly found themselves 2-0 up thanks to goals from Rob Manley and Adam Evans.

However, John Caulfield’s charges found a lifeline with minutes of the first-half remaining as Marc Ludden scored after a free-kick wreaked havoc in the Longford defence.

More set-piece havoc was to come for Longford Town in the second-half as Ludden levelled matters within seconds of the half beginning.

Former Longford Town winger Carlton Ubaezuonu then bagged a four-minute brace to put the Tribesmen 4-2 up.

And it was to get even better for Ubaezuonu in the 80th minute as he completed his hat-trick to make it 6-2 after Wilson Waweru’s strike just seconds before.

The result all but ends Longford Town’s feint hopes of lifting the First Division title, while Galway have now moved level on points with UCD.

Elsewhere, there was late drama at St Colman’s Park as Cobh Ramblers fell to a painful late defeat against Cabinteely.

Cabinteely took the lead through former Sunderland academy product Jack Connolly, but they were soon pegged back by Charlie Lyons’ equaliser in the 27th minute.

And following a dramatic second-half, where Cabinteely had a goal disallowed, they were not to be denied as Kieran Marty Waters scored a crucial 94th minute winner for Pat Devlin’s charges.
