League Preview: Cabinteely -v- Wexford

Pat Devlin’s Cabinteely will be hoping to get their promotion charge back on track tomorrow evening when they welcome a lowly Wexford to Stradbrook on Friday evening (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Cabo come into the game off the back of a heart-breaking last-gasp defeat on Monday evening against Galway United.

Despite dominating much of the second-half, the Green and Whites were dealt a harsh sucker-punch in the 99^th minute of the game as Stephen Christopher’s free-kick creeped into the top corner of the host’s net.

However, despite their recent slide – manager Pat Devlin is proud of his side’s efforts this season.

“To summarise the season so far I am really pleased. We lost five players and never replaced them,” Devlin told his club’s media team.

“We’re not scoring enough goals and we’re making defensive errors. The players we have are the best we can afford and I’m really proud of them.

“They’re fantastic people and it’s a great little club. All we can do is pull together and move forward.

“At the end of the day there’s nothing guaranteed – we have fifteen points to play for starting against Wexford.

“It will be extremely tough, make no mistake about it. We only drew with them earlier on in the season and we need to move forward.

“That’s all we have to do as a football club. But the most important thing is to move forward together.”

In terms of team news, Cabinteely have no suspension issues to contend with, although they do have a number of players on the treatment table.

WEXFORD

First Division Wexford know that they must produce an improved showing from recent weeks if they are to win their first game since July on Friday evening.

The Slaneysiders were defeated by Athlone Town on Monday evening – with Adrian Carberry’s young side departing Ferrycarrig Park with their second league win on the spin for the first time since the start of the 2019 season.

Wexford have now, as a result, only scored six goals all season – with no goals scored in their last 180 minutes of league football.

However, Brian O’Sullivan’s side will be bolstered by the addition of former St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers boss Harry Kenny to the club’s backroom team.

Kenny joins Wexford following the departure of now former assistant David Breen to local rivals Waterford FC.

In terms of team news for Wexford, goalkeeper Colum Feeney is expected to miss out with injury alongside forward Conor English who is due to miss the rest of the 2020 campaign with a concussion.
