Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds heads shock takeover bid for supporter-owned Wrexham

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have launched a shock bid to take ownership of Welsh club Wrexham.

The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board, who own the club. today voted 97.5% to 2.5% in favour of a resolution to begin talks with the prospective bidders for a potential takeover.

They subsequently named the two interested investors as Deadpool actor Reynolds and McElhenney, best know for his role as Mac in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Though based in North Wales, Wrexham are one of five clubs that have traditionally competed in the English league system, along with Swansea, Cardiff City, Newport County and Merthyr Town.

The club have hit hard times in recent years and 2008 saw their 87-year stay in the Football League come to an end with relegation to the fifth tier.

Wrexham have been fan-owned since 2011 and, in the years since, a group of their fans have struck up a kinship with supporters from fan-owned Bohemians and regularly visit matches.

Reynolds and McElhenney will now open talks with the Supports Trust Board and, should an agreement be reached, their bid will be put to another ballot at a Special General Meeting.
