Shamrock Rovers land home Europa League tie against Italian giants AC Milan, while Dundalk draw Andorrans Inter Escaldes

Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers have been handed a Europa League second qualifying round tie against Italian giants AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Filippo Giovagnoli’s Dundalk have been handed an away tie to face Andorran champions Inter Escaldes.

On the eve of the draw, UEFA confirmed the groupings and the Hoops, who were unseeded, could have been drawn against either the seven-time European Cup winners from Italy, Fehervar FC from Hungary or FK Zalgiris Vilnius from Lithuania.

It is 45 years since Milan travelled to Ireland to take on Athlone Town in the UEFA Cup and they are set for their second visit to Ireland to take on Rovers.

It is a decade ago that Rovers played Italian football royalty when they took on Juventus in the Europa League qualifiers – losing 2-0 in Tallaght Stadium and 1-0 in Italy – with Stephen Bradley involved as a player in that tie.

Dundalk’s opponents Inter Escaldes are the current Andorran league champions – and they were recently knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Kosovan side FC Drita.

The second qualifying round of the Europa League will take place on 17 September behind-closed-doors in a one-off tie. Home advantage will be decided in Monday’s draw.

Elsewhere, Coleraine have been drawn at home to face Motherwell. Linfield will take on Maltese side Floriana and Welsh side Bala Town will play Standard Liege.
