Irish international Stephen Gleeson joins English non-league side Solihull Moors

Republic of Ireland international midfielder Stephen Gleeson has joined English non-league side Solihull Moors on a one-year deal.

Gleeson has played over 100 games in the Championship for both Birmingham City and Ipswich Town – and is most recently of Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.

The four-time capped Irish midfielder is most well known for his spell at MK Dons however where he made 200 appearances for the club during a five-year spell.

“It’s exciting, I’m excited to get going and get back into football,” Gleeson told Solihull’s media team.

“It’s close to my home, the manager, Bealey, the project, everything just fitted what I wanted at this stage in my career.

“I’m just ready to get going and start enjoying my football again – I think this could be the right club for me.

“I’m happy to get it done. I haven’t played since December last year so I’m looking forward to the six weeks of pre-season leading into the games and hopefully getting that rust off.

“I think I have experience throughout my career playing at a decent level, so anything I can bring to the manager that he needs, I want to bring.”

Solihull manager Jimmy Shan added: “This is an outstanding addition to the squad. We have signed a player with Championship pedigree and a wealth of experience.

“Stephen is a player that fits the Moors way, he will help the team gain control in games and has an outstanding ability to unlock with clever and creative passes.”
