Mark Byrne joins Shels from Gillingham

Shelbourne have completed the signing of Mark Byrne from Gillingham.

Byrne, who can play in midfield and at right back arrives at Tolka Park after spending four years with Gillingham in England.

During his time with the Gills, he won one Player of the Year award while also making 157 appearances for the club.

In his 13 years in the UK, Byrne represented Nottingham Forest, Barnet, Newport and most recently Gilligham.

After the announcement, Shels boss Ian Morris revealed his delight at adding another  player with experience to his squad.

“I am absolutely delighted to have a player of Mark,s quality and experience with us,” Morris told shelbournefc.ie.

“Mark has played over 400 games in England. That is a testament to the attitude and quality Mark possesses,” he added.

Byrne will go straight into the Shels squad to face Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium on Friday night.
