Price pleased with first win for Hoops First Division side

Macdara Ferris reports from Tallaght Stadium

It took till the sixth match of the season but on Saturday Shamrock Rovers II picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 win over Wexford.

The victory moved Aidan Price’s men up to seventh in the table above Cobh Ramblers on goals scored and a point behind Wexford.

it was a win that unsurprisingly pleased Price.

“Delighted with the result as that is what we asked of them before the game to concentrate on the result,” said Price when he was speaking after the game to Justin Mason of Dublin City FM.

Three times so far this season his team has conceded goals in the last ten minutes to drop points including last time out in Tallaght when they lost a two goal lead and had to settle for a draw against Drogheda Untied.

“Our performances have been good but we haven’t seen out games. In a strange way I think we played better in other games and not got what we deserved.

“Psychologically it was important for them (to win). Coming in at half time we were in the same scenario (as against Drogheda) and having given that up before that can be quite daunting for a group of players who are quite young.

“For them to see the game out and not give away too many opportunities was pleasing.

I’ve been trying to tell our players that there is nothing to fear.

“There is a cautiousness at times and maybe nervousness - they just need to believe and trust themselves that they are well able to play at this standard.”

Next up for Rovers in the First Division is a trip from Tallaght to the seaside on Tuesday evening to take on Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
