Former Irish international Mark Kennedy leaves Macclesfield following relegation

Head Coach Mark Kennedy and Assistant Danny Butterfield have both rejected contract extensions with the club the recently relegated side have confirmed.

Kennedy is of course a former Irish international who also enjoyed spells at Manchester City and Wolves and had only been in the hot seat since January.

Macclesfield Town were relegated to the National League after the EFL won an appeal against a points deduction imposed on the embattled club.

When the League Two season was cut short in June it appeared the club had just about escaped relegation after they were handed a two point deduction, with a further four suspended. The deduction was due to the failure to pay wages, however, with Stevenage just a point below them Macclesfield would have stayed in the League had the decision not been changed upon appeal.

A statement from the club read: “The Club would like to thank both Mark and Danny for their efforts at the Moss Rose and wish them well for the future.

"We will now begin the search for their replacements and will provide a further update in due course.”
