Scottish Premiership Round-up: Celtic miss chance to win as Hibs and Rangers sit a top of the pile

Three clubs have won their opening two Scottish Premiership games, while defending champions Celtic were held to a draw by Kilmarnock.

Hibernian lead the pack following their 4-1 victory away to Livingston. A hat-trick from striker Kevin Nisbet helped to send Hibs to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

They are closely followed by Rangers who enjoyed a comfortable home victory against St. Mirren.

Rangers took the lead in the 23rd minute thanks to an own-goal. Former Cork City defender Conor McCarthy put the ball into his own net from an Alfredo Morelos cross.

Morelos, who has recently been the focus of transfer speculation, secured the victory for Rangers with two second-half goals.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard after the game described his sides’ performance as ‘positive’ and ‘dominant’, “we kept forcing the issue, we got the breakthrough with the own-goal but again it’s a fantastic cross.”

Hibs and Rangers are joined at the top by Ross County, who secured a 1-0 victory away to Hamilton on Saturday.

Celtic are now two points off the pace after their draw at Rugby Park. A long range Ryan Christie free-kick was followed by a Chris Burke penalty.

Burke slotted the penalty home after Nicke Kabamba was brought down in the box by Christopher Jullien.

Kilmarnock endured significant Celtic pressure in the second half to claim a point against the defending champions.

Elsewhere Motherwell were beaten at home by Dundee United, while Aberdeen’s tie against St. Johnstone was postponed due to Covid concerns.
