Watch: Wexford and Cabinteely play out scoreless draw at Ferrycarrig Park

First Division league leaders Cabinteely were held to a scoreless draw on Friday evening by an improving Wexford.

The Green and White’s went into the clash down the N11 with an injury ravaged squad – with seven missing out through injury after last week’s win away to Galway United.

To compound Cabo’s misery, they also lost the duo of Conor Keeley and Vilius Labutis in the warm-up – with Eoin McPhillips and Christian Lotefa drafted in late on.

However, it was Pat Devlin’s side who had the first real opening of the game, but McPhillips fired over the bar after the ball teed into his path by winger Paul Fox.

The Slaneysiders responded however, and Corey Chambers was forced parry away Conor Crowley’s fiercely struck long-range effort.

Brian O’Sullivan’s side continued to threaten, and it was Ola Adeyemo who went closest next – but he saw his free-kick just clear Chambers’ crossbar.

Cabo failed to deal with a Jack Doherty set-piece in the second half, but Wexford were unable to profit from their lax defending, as Crowley saw his effort go harmlessly over the bar.

Cabo then went close through Fox, but he could only steer Alex Aspil’s low cross into the side-netting of Tom Murphy’s net.

Wexford then went close through Kaleem Simon – but he could not squeeze his effort home past ex-Wexford keeper Chambers.

However, the best chance of the game fell to Robbie Dunne in the 94th minute of the game. Dunne was found free in the penalty area by a superb Dean Casey cross, but the ex-Sunderland forward blazed over the bar as the game ended scoreless.
