Amber Barrett extends stay in Germany

Republic of Ireland international Amber Barrett has signed a new deal with German side FC Köln.

The Donegal striker joined the club from Peamount United last summer and has now extended her contract by a year.

Barrett put pen to paper along with five other players as the German side look to win promotion at the first time of asking after being relegated from the Frauen-Bundesliga at the end of last season.

Francesca Calò, Sabrina Horvat, Sonja Giraud and Johanna Tietge have all committed to the club along with the Republic of Ireland international.

“It was important for us to put together a team that is in the position to be promoted back to the Bundesliga,” manager Sacha Glass said, speaking to the club’s website.

“A huge compliment must go to our sporting director, Nicole Bender, who got stuck straight into work straight after the relegation.

“Amber and Sonja give us more options in attack and are different types of strikers. Amber is quick and can finish well, Sonja is physical, can hold the ball up well and is a force up front. It’s nice to be able to keep both here.”
